Dear Tribal Leader:
I write to provide you an update on the 2020 HHS Annual Regional Tribal Consultations. After outreach to solicit input from Tribal Leaders, and due to COVID-19, this year's HHS Regional Tribal Consultation sessions will be virtual. These sessions are designed to provide Tribal Leaders with the opportunity to address HHS on how the Department can improve Tribal outreach and coordination and to discuss programmatic and policy issues and concerns with Tribes.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services remains committed to strengthening the government-to-government relationship between the Federal Government and Indian Tribes. These sessions will provide Tribes opportunities to focus on regional specific issues with their respective regional HHS counterparts, and the sessions also provide an opportunity for Tribal Leaders to consult with HHS headquarters leadership on national level issues.
Tribes will also have an opportunity to schedule individual one-on-one consultations with the regions by contacting the appropriate individual listed above. In addition, if Tribes cannot make it to any of the respective regional consultations they can submit written testimony at firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday September 4, 2020. Additional information, including registration, WebEx links, and draft agendas, will be available at the link below.

In addition, HHS will be adhering to the Tribal Consultation Policy which established a presentation/speaker protocol. This ensures that the highest ranking official from each respective
Tribe is given the opportunity to address the session first, followed by other elected officials, and those designated by their elected official to represent their respective Indian Tribe. If a Tribe is designating someone other than an elected official to speak on their behalf, a letter of designation must be provided prior to the start of the consultation. The letter can be uploaded at the registration link listed above. Every individual who will participate in the consultation must register. Registration will close one day prior to every respective consultation.
Thank you for your continued hard work and support of our efforts to build healthier communities and your continued support of the consultation process.
