Telemental-health Group Service Delivery Friday, Feb. 4Telemental-health Group Service Delivery Friday, Feb. 4
N/A
February 4, 20222-part webinar series: Telemental-health Group Service Delivery
Friday, Feb. 4, and Friday, Feb. 11
2-3 ET . 1-2 CT . 12-1 MT . 11-12 PT . 10-11 AKT
At the beginning of the Public Health Emergency (PHE) mental health and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery support providers had to shift service delivery from a mostly in-person structure to virtual. This swift uptake in the use of telebehavioral-health may be transformative not only for the healthcare system but for the mental health field as well.
Support derived from clinical and peer group services is essential, especially during a PHE when access to services may be limited. Mental health and SUD treatment and recovery providers have made great strides in virtualizing service delivery, especially individual-based services. However, group counseling services, a mainstay in many mental health, SUD treatment, and recovery support programs, has been more difficult to implement.
This two-part webinar series will address those challenges. During the series, we will:
· review recent research regarding patient satisfaction, group cohesion, and effectiveness of online group services
· identify challenges typically associated with online group facilitation and how to address them
· provide specific recommendations for online group facilitation and how it differs from in-person groups (e.g., tips and techniques, group agreements, etc.)
· discuss safety protocols, and issues related to ethics and privacy/security and confidentiality in the context of online group case scenarios
This webinar series will highlight online group counseling and peer recovery services and will demonstrate its viability as an alternative to traditional in-person groups, which requires new facilitative, alliance-building, and administrative skills from both counselors and peers.
Continuing education certificates available.
Presenter Sandnes Boulanger, LCSW, MCAP, CET; Vice President of Clinical Services-Operation PAR

February 8, 2022The Tribal Community Health Provider Project (TCHPP) Behavioral Health Aide (BHA) Program at the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) is proud to announce the launch of a new Indian Country Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) program on February 8, 2022, from Noon to 1:30 pm (PST). Our goal is to build off the success of the NW Elders, Knowledge Holders, and Culture Keepers virtual gatherings as a way to continue to provide engaging workforce development for our TCHPP students and graduates.
Our newest ECHO will provide space for elders, knowledge holders, and culture keepers to regularly connect, collaborate, and support one another as well as provide regional traditional knowledge, clinical education, and advice to our tribal community health students, providers, and staff. Participants will be able to further develop their skills as care providers by bringing together traditional and western knowledge as tools for and approaches to behavioral health.
What is Indian Country ECHO?
One of the ways the NW Portland Area Indian Health Board fosters collaboration is through the offering of tele-ECHO programs via the Zoom platform. These programs provide an interactive online learning environment where tribal community health care providers and staff serving American Indian and Alaska Native people can connect with peers, engage in didactic presentations, collaborate on case consultations, and receive mentorship and workforce development opportunities from elders and knowledge holders across Indian Country.
The Indian Country NW Elders, Knowledge Holders, and Culture Keepers ECHO will provide comprehensive information for tribal community health providers to effectively increase access to quality behavioral healthcare that is culturally appropriate to their unique tribes and communities. The 90-minute telehealth sessions will offer tribal community health providers and staff an opportunity to engage in a 45-minute teaching presentation by lead faculty, followed by a discussion of community member and systems-based cases. Each ECHO will conclude with time for feedback and healing recommendations from peers and our multidisciplinary team of elders, knowledge holders, and clinicians working in Indian Country.
Who Can Participate? How Can I Help?
We are seeking community members who are dedicated to being of service - tribal elders, recognized knowledge holders, culture keepers, spiritual leaders, instructors/teachers, storytellers, traditional healthcare providers, artists, and others who hold a deep appreciation for their Indigenous communities and who want to offer their experience to serve as a cultural guide for our students and graduates.
ECHO faculty will teach together but focus on a variety of skills for our past, present, and future tribal community health provider students and others who wish to participate. The ECHO platform will be an important part of a successful academic career as TCHPP students engage in their respective programs at Northwest Indian College, Heritage University, and Skagit Valley College.

February 11, 20222-part webinar series: Telemental-health Group Service Delivery

February 23, 2022Supporting the Science of Informal Cancer Caregiving:
Highlights of NCI-Funded Research
Wednesday, February 23, 20221:00 PM – 2:00 PM EST
Purpose:
The Outcomes Research Branch of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is holding a 5-part webinar series on research to support informal cancer caregivers. This second session will include three presentations from NCI-funded grantees focused on interventions to support cancer caregivers.
Background:
Over the last decade, NCI has placed a strong emphasis on advancing research on informal cancer caregiving. In 2015, NCI hosted a workshop to identify research priorities, and in response, NCI developed a funding opportunity announcement (FOA), Intervening with Cancer Caregivers to Improve Patient Health Outcomes and Optimize Health Care Utilization PAR-19-352 (R01), PAR-19-355 (R21), to support interventions for cancer caregivers. Informal cancer caregiving research continues to be a priority at NCI and in the Healthcare Delivery Research Program. NCI remains committed to supporting future research in this area.
This 5-part webinar series invites NCI-funded grantees to describe their accomplishments, challenges, and next steps in cancer caregiving research. Each session will have dedicated presentations from each of the funded grantees. This webinar series will conclude in May with an NCI-led discussion of themes among the funded grants and key opportunities for future research to support informal cancer caregiving.
Following the presentation there will be a brief question and answer session. Webinar participants may submit questions in advance of the webinar to NCIHDRP@mail.nih.gov by Friday, February 18th or during the webinar in the chat.
For background on cancer caregiving, please see the following resource:
https://healthcaredelivery.cancer.gov/caregiving/
Intended Audience: This webinar is intended for extramural investigators, advocates, and the public. No experience with cancer caregiving research is necessary.

What: Grand Rounds – “Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV Prevention: A Highly Effective Biomedical Option”
When: Wednesday, February 23rd at 10am - 11am PT
Description: We welcome you to join Indian Country ECHO for Grand Rounds focused on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV Prevention. PrEP is a key primary care intervention to to significantly reduce HIV acquisition among sexually active men and women and persons who inject drugs. Even in rural clinics where there may be few patients at substantial risk of HIV exposure, availability of PrEP helps prevent HIV transmission in the community. This intervention is simple to administer either as a daily oral pill or an injection every other month. This session will cover the evidence on effectiveness, monitoring, and best practices, including remote provision of PrEP care services. This one-hour Grand Rounds session includes an opportunity to engage in a didactic presentation, learn from an IHS/Tribal/Urban specific perspective on running PrEP care services in I/T/U facilities, become part of a learning community, and join an upcoming PrEP ECHO program.
Speakers: Dawn K. Smith, MD, MS, MPH; Demetre Daskalakis, MD, MPH; CAPT Heather Huentelman, PharmD, BCPS
