Dr. Cole’s research examines health inequities and health behaviors among American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations, including alcohol, tobacco, and substance use; exercise and eating patterns; and mental health. She also studies social and individual determinants of health among AI/AN peoples from both resilience and risk perspectives. Dr. Cole is the recipient of the several competitively funded national fellowships and awards, and she is currently funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for a project to examine the usability and feasibility of a smoking cessation intervention delivered via smartphone application with American Indian adult smokers who want to quit smoking. Dr. Cole has written 17 peer-reviewed publications and two book chapters, with several additional publications that are currently under review.
