No More Stolen People: Keep it Moving with Awareness, Empowerment, and Action Please join us in this session to increase awareness and understanding about MMIP and the MMIW Movement. We will be guided in this conversation by Cynthia Goslin, Lestina Saul-Merdassi, and Theresa Sault-Brill. Topics of this session include the history of MMIW and the importance and meaning of the movement with a goal to better understand why AI/AN peoples go missing at disproportionate rates, the historical and present role of the federal government, and a conversation about the traumas associated with having a loved one who is missing. We will end the session with actions that we can each take at home to support AI/AN individuals and communities and focus on how youth can get involved in the movement and the vital role they play.

Native Food is Medicine: Providing Emotional/Resilient Support for AI/AN Youth though the Healing Power of Food Join us as we share our cultural connection to food, apply a balanced way of eating, and incorporate Indigenous traditions into our lives with the healing power of food. We welcome Vanessa Quezada (Kickapoo/Chichimeca). She is a pharmacist and founding member of SanArte Healing and Cultura clinic. Her work is at the intersection of Native traditional healing, food sovereignty, and renewable energy that builds more life-giving systems. Participants will become knowledgeable in providing emotional/resilient support for AI/AN youth. Our school communities will develop healthier eating habits for successful outcomes in and out of the classroom. We will reflect upon our cultural connections to food and discuss the importance of sugar stability in the body as related to mental health support. We will learn how to adapt a balanced way of eating and discuss the role of stress, sleep, and exercise. Together, we will develop plans for improving access to our traditional foods. 3-4:30 ET / 2-3:30 CT / 1-2:30 MT / 12-1:30 PT / 11-12:30 AK |
