Key Indian Health Issues
Under the direction of the forty-three Northwest tribal delegates, NPAIHB oversees a variety of health-related programs. In the arena of health promotion and disease prevention, NPAIHB administers projects in cancer, women’s health, and tobacco. The Epidemiology Center (EpiCenter) at NPAIHB administers projects in data registry, dental center support, diabetes, FAS/FAE, immunizations, STDs/HIV/AIDS, and toddler obesity and tooth decay,
Legislation remains key in addressing Indian health issues and has proven to be one the Board’s most effective tools in addressing a number of health disparities, budget shortfalls, tribal consultation affecting Indian health programs, and research in Indian Country. See NPAIHB’s Legislative Section for details.
