Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board: Indian Leadership for Indian Health

History & Goals

The Data into Action Project began in November 2006 and was completed in October 2007.
We’ve completed the first initial year of the project and were recently awarded another 5 years to continue The Data into Action Project.
Of the forty-three federally recognized tribes in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, only six were invited to participate in the Data into Action Project.
An eleven question Interview Instrument was developed to address program and policy, implementation, health priorities, solutions, health programs,
RPMS software, data sources, community health assessment profiles, and resources.
Each site was also given a survey which allowed all health personnel to fill out to the best of their knowledge regarding RPMS programs,
past survey’s and studies, financial and administration applications, and Tribal Community Health Assessment Profiles.
We interviewed six to eleven health personnel at each site and each were given the same questions.
After documenting the findings we were able to identify potential barriers that affect the translation of data into health programs, services and policies.
In the future we plan to re-visit each site providing them with a final report on the findings gathered from their Tribe.
This will allow for future trainings, conferences, and tools they can use to improve their Tribe as a whole.

“Our mission is to answer critical questions that affect the translation of health quality data into improved health status for American Indians at the Tribal level.”
