Data into Action
Mission:
Our mission is to answer critical questions that affect the translation of health quality data into improved health status for American Indians at the tribal level.
Goals:
The goals of the Data into Action project are to collect concrete information on barriers that prohibit tribes from utilizing existing health data; and to develop a basis for future activities to explore these barriers, support tribes in overcoming them, and emulate successful strategies.
Strategies:
Create a survey to answer critical questions about data availability and data use by tribes, including sources and types of data available; sources and types of data accessed; factors affecting use of data to identify community health needs and priorities; health policy or health programs that use data results; factors contributing to successful use of health data; and factors leading to ineffective use or non-use of available data
- Survey several health system personnel at 5-10 tribal sites, and create an inventory of available data sources at each site
- Analyze survey results and document major trends and themes; share results with tribes
- Provide recommendations to the Department of Health and Human Services, based on survey results
- Publish study results in relevant health journals
Tribes Served:
The Data to Action project will survey a cross section representation of 5 to 10 tribes, and results will be shared with and will benefit all 43 federally recognized tribes in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
Funding:
Project activities are funded by the Office of Minority Health, US Department of Health and Human Services.
