National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children (NADEC) Dec 6 - 7

Dear Tribal Nations Working Group Member:

NADEC is a non-profit organization whose work is dedicated to addressing community and system issues which affect the safety and well-being of children whose caregivers abuse substances.  NADEC relies on the dedication, knowledge and productivity of the working groups that contribute their time, knowledge and experience to develop a range of resources and strategies as well as to identify research, collect data and provide public speakers in specific topic areas.  The current working groups are made up of heath professionals, substance abuse treatment providers, law enforcement officers, social workers, attorneys, judicial officials, community educators, and researchers.  The working groups are:

Child Focused Working Group—Developmental, Psychological and Social Issues Working Group
Initial Response, Assessment & Decision Making Working Group (Law Enforcement, Child Welfare, Prosecution & Court Working Group)
Education & Training Working Group

Needs Assessment & Data Collection Working Group
Treatment and Case Management Working Group
Tribal Nations Working Group

We know that it is important for you to represent your tribe or organization in efforts such as this that have a potential for broad impact on all of Indian Country.  Enclosed is a short fact sheet with information that is specific to Tribal Issues for you to share with your colleagues, supervisors, Tribal leaders and others to help them understand the importance of your role with NADEC.  We know that your Tribe’s support is important to your involvement in the Tribal Nations Work Group and your attendance at the first Tribal Nations Work Group planning meeting on December 6 and 7, 1007 in Albuquerque, N. M.  Although there are no funds to cover your time, NADEC is able to cover travel and lodging expenses for this event. 

To confirm your availability for the December meeting and your willingness to make at least a one year commitment to the Tribal Nations Work Group, please reply to Susannah Carroll at or 303.413.3063.  In addition, please send a brief biographical paragraph which can be shared with other Tribal Nations Work Group members to include any information specific to your work with methamphetamine issues and/or other substance abuse issues and children.
