Risk Analysis Training Feb 9
February 09 2010
As most of you are aware, over the next 12 months many of the jurisdictions in Washington will have Hazard Mitigation Plans (HMP) which will be expiring (or which have already expired). Some of you have received mitigation grant monies to help facilitate the update (or creation) of your HMP and are working with contractors, while others are undertaking this venture on your own.
During my contact with those of you who have already embarked upon the planning process, one common element I hear is the difficulty you are having in conducting the risk analysis portion of your plan. In an attempt to assist you in this endeavor, I have again made arrangements to have risk analysis training performed by Nate Wood of the USGS Vancouver Office. Nate taught this class for us last year, and the response we received from those in attendance was very favorable. He has also taught the class several times in Oregon. The curriculum will be of benefit to all those who attend, even those who have hired consultants to develop their plan. The class gives you a much greater understanding of what is included in a risk assessment. Nate teaches different types of analysis, meeting the needs of everyone. We are very fortunate to have him as an instructor for us.
Nate’s training will actually begin around 10. During the first two hours, Kristen Meyers from FEMA Region X and I will be addressing a few other common issues which we have seen come up in the planning process, such as the difference between an Update and a New Plan, and what needs to be done in the Update phase. We will also be fielding any questions you may have about mitigation planning to help make the process easier for you. Additionally, if you let me know in advance, I can set up one-on-one time with you to work through any issues you are having individually, rather than the group setting. I can be available either on the 8th if anyone is traveling in from different areas, or before/after the training on the 9th.
I encourage everyone to attend—this training and technical assistance will truly make your planning process much easier to work through.
Priority attendance will be given to those jurisdictions with planning grants, new plans and expired plans.
Availability will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. We have room for 30 attendees.
If you would like to attend, please email me as soon as possible, but no later than January 22nd.
